Durham’s cooler nights mean fireplaces are firing up, but creosote buildup and hidden damage can turn cozy evenings into fire hazards. This fall, Mateos Chimney LLC is reminding homeowners that a chimney sweep isn’t just maintenance; it’s your first line of defense against carbon monoxide leaks and chimney fires. With Durham’s older homes and mixed fuel types (wood, gas, pellet), risks vary. We’re offering free estimates now to get you booked before the first hard frost. Licensed, insured, and local to Durham, we’ll inspect for cracks, blockages, and code violations, so your chimney isn’t just clean, but safe.
Why Durham Homeowners Should Sweep Before Thanksgiving
Durham’s humidity and mixed fuel use (especially in older homes near the Connecticut River) mean creosote dries faster than in drier climates. By late November, many homeowners discover their chimneys are already clogged, just as holiday gatherings ramp up. A chimney sweep now catches problems before they become emergencies. For gas fireplaces, we also check for carbon monoxide risks tied to cracked heat exchangers, a common issue in Durham’s 1920s–1950s homes. Learn how wood vs. gas fireplaces differ in maintenance>>/compare/wood-vs-gas-fireplace/. Our team uses video inspections to spot hidden damage, and we’ll flag any violations against Durham’s updated 2023 chimney safety codes. Book before December 1st to avoid last-minute delays.
